Porto Alegre Consular Agency

The Consular Agent in Porto Alegre operates by appointment only, except for emergency services. Emergencies include - death, arrest, stolen or lost passports. You can schedule your appointment by sending an email to the email address below. By scheduling your appointment through email, we can provide more efficient service to the public and you have more flexibility in scheduling your appointment time. Appointment requests via phone are not accepted. Please note that there is no fee to schedule an appointment.

Email Appointments

All applicants scheduling an appointment by email should include their name, identification information (passport or CPF number), telephone number, address, date and time of requested appointment, and the service they are submitting an application for: visa pages, passport services, report of birth abroad of a child of a U.S. citizen and/or applying for the child's first passport, or requesting notary and other services. Please note that "certidão de inscrição consular", evidence of marital status, social security issues, voting, etc are considered other services. The U.S. Consular Agency in Porto Alegre is open to the public Monday thru Friday, from 9:00am-1:00pm, except for U.S. and Brazilian holidays.

If you need to cancel your appointment, you can do so by emailing or calling. In order to accommodate as many appointments as possible, please cancel your appointment at least 48 hours beforehand. Customers who do not appear for an appointment and fail to advise us in a timely manner will be asked to wait one week before scheduling again.

Signing-up with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate allows us to contact you in the event of an emergency or send you the latest information about living or visiting Brazil and other important notices, including Travel Warnings and Travel Alerts (where appropriate). Enrollment can be also useful to help verify U.S. citizenship after the loss or theft of a passport.  The information submitted is covered by privacy laws, accessed only by cleared personnel in Embassies, Consulates, and the Department of State and no information submitted will be released without your express consent.
